Support and Care for the Children Temporarily Residing at the First Reception Centre (FRC) “Pournara”

On Thursday, 9 January 2025, an event dedicated to the children of asylum-seeking families temporarily hosted at the First Reception Centre (FRC) “Pournara” in Kokkinotrimithia took place.

The event was carried out through a significant collaboration between the Limassol-based Radio Station “Kanali 6”, the Limassol Public Transport Company, Sunfresh Bakeries, the Non-Profit Organisation CODECA – Center for Social Cohesion, Development and Care, as well as the miHUB Project (Migrant Information Centres – AMIF/SO2/2024/7). The miHUB project is implemented by the University of Nicosia in collaboration with the research organization CARDET and is co-funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund of the European Union (75%) and the Republic of Cyprus (25%).

The Christmas gifts that were collected specifically for this event were distributed to the children by Santa Claus, who arrived at the area where the families are temporarily residing, creating a warm and festive atmosphere filled with smiles and excitement.

At the end of the event, the Nicosia MIC Counsellors who were present had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Frixos Sofokleous, Coordinator of the Centre. During the discussion, detailed information was provided about miHUB, including the location of the Nicosia office, the services offered, and the ways in which asylum seekers can be supported after leaving the Centre.

Additionally, informational leaflets about the Project were distributed to the Centre’s residents, and posters were placed in central areas of the facility to ensure that information is easily accessible and visible to everyone.

This initiative once again highlighted the importance of cooperation and social solidarity, contributing meaningfully to the support of children and families who are at a critical stage of the asylum process.
